My practical thought is that he was a king and did not want to incur the wrath of his people for removing the false idols. As a person, fear maybe. Maybe compromising can lead to our captivity when we compromise our beliefs? ps

Totally. I think he was a lot like politicians today. He'll do whatever sells and whatever keeps him in "power". mcr
